Our grassroots, volunteer-run group is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit (EIN: 30-0777784).

We have been in operation since 2012, and meet weekly in Cambridge, Mass.

Our current activities include:
– Pushing for three bills we helped to author in the state legislature, on asset forfeitures, police body-worn cameras, and police military equipment, and a fourth (the Fundamental Freedoms Act) which reforms fusion centers.
– Leading campaigns for Cambridge, Somerville and other communities to adopt surveillance oversight ordinances, like Santa Clara County and Oakland have done in California.
– Opposing (again) a proposed expansion of Massachusetts’ wiretapping statute.

We’re the state affiliate of national civil liberties group Restore The Fourth, and are working to oppose the reauthorization of Section 702 mass surveillance powers in December 2017.

We’re an explicitly transpartisan group, with active members who voted in 2016 for Clinton, Trump, Stein, Johnson and None of the Above. We include Pirates, anarchists, revolutionaries, libertarians and people who just want a quiet life. We encourage a respectful mutual conversation on the important topic of surveillance and the Fourth Amendment. If you’d like to join our discussion group, email

If you need to make a tax-deductible donation, please try our research arm, which helps to fund relevant research into the surveillance state.
